namely, that every “relationship” I’ve ever been in has ended with death threats, punches in the face, some terrible catastrophe, mysterious disappearances, trauma for everyone involved or some combination of all the above.

Somewhere beyond the deepest darkness and most vile and wonderful of thoughts, a train tore through the landscape. The blackest night and most colorful morning rotated around them like some marvelous kaleidoscope, but neither of the sole two passengers took notice of them. In fact, only one of them had their eyes open at all. He gazed at the boy across from him with a wild, curious wonder, leaning forward in his seat.
“…”
Finally, he opened his eyes. Behind thick glasses, there were dark circles beneath them. He gazed back at the form of a young boy staring back at him. While the scowl was fixed on his face, his fellow passenger’s smile only widened.
“Hi!”
He winced and settled a little more into his seat. The smiling boy’s voice was kind, but prying.
“You must be new here.”
